ABOUT US

The Alameda Point Collaborative works to end homelessness by providing housing and services to create communities where formerly homeless families and individuals can flourish.

Alameda Point Collaborative (APC) is a nonprofit agency operating on the site of the former Naval Air Base in Alameda, managing 200 housing units for over 500 formerly homeless residents and providing support services, including case management, counseling, employment training, and children and youth services.

Ploughshares Nursery is a nonprofit plant nursery dedicated to sustainable gardening and social impact. Every purchase helps support individuals transitioning out of homelessness. We’re looking for a creative, organized, and community-minded intern to help amplify our mission through social media.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

Under the guidance of the Nursery Manager, the Ploughshares Nursery Social Media Intern will play a key role in enhancing and expanding Ploughshares’ online presence. This involves creating, sharing, and promoting engaging content while actively monitoring our social media channels. The intern will also help develop and implement innovative social media strategies, keeping an eye on the latest trends to boost our visibility within the community.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

  • Assist with social media calendar management (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Yelp)
  • Promote upcoming community events, workshops, and sales using Canva and Loomly
  • Ensure all posts align with our voice and mission
  • Help organize and maintain our Media Asset folder (photos, videos, captions)
  • Engage with followers and track basic analytics (optional based on interest)

QUALIFICATONS

  • Interested in plants, community work, or nonprofit communications
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Eyes for design, storytelling, and creativity
  • Strong organizational skills and able to meet weekly check-ins and deadlines
  • Proficient in social media platforms
  • Up to date on popular trends and/or willingness to delve into horticulturalist social media
  • Must be 18 or over.
