Performs complex public health nursing work in a clinical or non-clinical setting. Work involves planning, developing, and coordinating nursing activities for the care of individuals, families, and communities, and providing for the assessment, care, and treatment of patients. Immunizes community and citizen against disease and provides counseling. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Collaborates with community leaders to address community health needs and/or provide program-specific and public health information. Assists with Public Health Preparedness activities.
Collaborates with epidemiology staff to plan and implement surveillance of communicable diseases and other health conditions, and plans interventions at the community or regional level.
Coordinates and implements the delivery of direct public health services and essential public health services to individuals, families, and communities.
Develops, revises, and implements policies, procedures, and standing delegation orders.
Gathers, analyzes, and reports data from community assessments and other studies. Interprets public health law, program rules, and policies for agency staff and contractors.
Plans and develops the implementation of education activities for health professionals, staff, schools, and general public.
Interprets and implements agency policies and program goals, providing supervision and direction to staff in the performance of duties as related to public health issues and concerns.
Provides consultation, training, and technical assistance to agency staff and contracted providers.
May review requests for proposals and make recommendations for funding of contracted services.
May participate in quality assurance monitoring reviews to determine compliance with policies and procedures.
May train others.
Performs related work as assigned.
Experience/Qualifications Required:
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in public health nursing or community health nursing work
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in nursing or from an accredited nursing program.
- Must be licensed as a registered nurse by the State of Texas.
