Responsible for providing trust and estate administration services to individuals with the objective to achieve high standards of service quality within the policies, plans, strategies and standards established by Amerant, the regulators and the market they served.

Responsibilities:

  • Administer estate, trust, or custody accounts according to the directives in the will, trust document or custody agreement and applicable statutes and regulations
  • In coordination and with support from Relationship Managers or other banking officers, this position is responsible for business development and sales of all Trust products and services offered by Amerant Bank N.A.
  • Measures the risk involved in all his/her administered trust or custody accounts in coordination with Supervisor and Senior Management.
  • Makes recommendations, in coordination and with the support of Relationship Managers and other banking officers, on fiduciary alternatives and structures by assessing customer needs, using his/her knowledge, creativity and sound judgment.
  • Interact with legal counsel in estate proceedings and in trust situations when necessary.
  • Confers with trust grantors, co-fiduciaries, beneficiaries and other professionals employed by customers, as necessary.
  • Coordinates tax and real estate activities related to Trusts with outside counsel and tax advisor.
  • Coordinates investment program of all discretionary accounts with assigned portfolio manager.
  • Determines frequency and amount of payments to beneficiaries and makes recommendations concerning special distributions.
  • With support from Relationship Managers or other banking officers, obtains assets upon new account set up and obtains information concerning cost basis and necessary transfer documents.
  • Determines termination provisions, and upon closing an account, properly transfers assets and protects Bank with appropriate receipts and/or releases.
  • Achieves client service goals as established by Supervisor and Senior Management.
  • In coordination and with support from Relationship Managers or other banking officers, develops existing and new fiduciary business through periodic personal visits and remote contact with clients by promoting and cross-selling different types of fiduciary products and services.
  • Addresses and solves client concerns and queries, ensuring that the process of customer claims resolution is administered within the established parameters of quality and efficiency.
  • Performs services as required to comply with Community Reinvestment Act.
  • Interacts with other Units within Amerant.
  • Provides support for regulatory-driven projects.
  • Maintains client-confidentiality within and outside Amerant.
  • Keeps abreast of current legal and fiduciary services and products within the trust industry
  • Keeps current with laws and regulations affecting the Trust Business including regulation 9, ERISA, and Banking and Probate code.
  • Identifies, evaluates, monitors and makes any recommendation deemed necessary to their respective Risk Management Committee in order to assess, reduce, eliminate or control any current or prospective risks to earnings or capital arising from violations of, or nonconformance with, laws, rules regulations, prescribed practices, internal policies and procedures or ethical standards.
  • Ensure preventive measures are carried out to fully comply with current rules, regulations and internal policies relating to risks pertaining to BSA, USA Patriot Act, OFAC and other AML related issues.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and/or Certifications Requirements:

Minimum of a Bachelors degree preferably in Trust, Legal or Business Studies.

Trust certification is preferred.

Minimum Work Experience Requirements:

Minimum 1 - 3 years of trust administrative experience or legal experience in probate, trusts administration, or estate planning, estate and fiduciary income taxation. Ability to communicate effectively with beneficiaries and professional associates. Should be comfortable developing and implementing financial plans and estate plans with clients. Ability to prioritize projects and operate with minimum supervision.

Technical and/or Other Essential Knowledge:

Excellent written and oral communication skills and have excellent client contact skills. Previous experience with Outlook, Internet and MS Office Skills, including MS Word Advanced, MS Excel Advanced, and MS PowerPoint Advanced
